God’s Word is Life

When I meditate on God’s Word, I think of three aspects; the spoken Word, the written Word and the living Word. God’s Word is food for the soul and life to the body!

It starts in Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” How did He do it? He did it by the power of His Word, the spoken Word. In the creation story, “Then God said” is mentioned nine times. God spoke into existence everything on the earth with nine proclamations as follows:

1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
1:6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
1:9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.
1:11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.
1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
1: 20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”
1:24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.
1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
1:29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”

How good is it to know that we are made in His image and our words have power! We have the power to speak blessings or curses! Where God has given us authority, our words have power! Speak blessings over your family, your business and everything you have been put in control of.

In Psalm 33:6 we read that God created not only the Earth, but the heavens as well by His spoken Word. “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” Our God is POWERFUL! His Word is POWERFUL!
‭‭‬‬
I was watching Hal Lindsey one night and I heard him read Jeremiah 15:16 and it resonated within me to where it has become one of my favorite verses. “Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Jeremiah proclaimed that he ate the word of God and it was the joy and rejoicing of his heart! Think about it, we eat things for nourishment we eat food! The word of God is food for nourishment! The word of God brought joy and rejoicing to Jeremiah, why not us? What a blessing we have in the written word of God.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil in Matt 4:4 He said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Another way of saying this is “Man shall live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” God’s Word is POWERFUL! God’s word is FOOD! God’s word is NOURISHMENT!

So now when I read the word, I think of it as more than just a mental exercise, it is an encounter with the living God! It is the life and power of the living God poured out into my entire being through my eyes and my mind. It gets inside of me, changes me, strengthens me, improves me, prepares me for the battle ahead!

The Lord had Ezekiel eat a scroll with words written on it and told him to go and speak the words to the house of Israel.
“Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” So, I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll. And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness. Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them.” Ezekiel 3:1-4
Moreover, He said to me: “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears. And go, get to the captives, to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD,’ whether they hear, or whether they refuse.”” ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭3:10-11‬‬‬‬‬

So here we see a clear case of the Lord having one of His prophets eat a scroll full of words from God and then go and speak the word to His people! Notice the sequence: Eat the word, receive it into your heart and then listen with your ears and speak what you hear from within you. You see, when we eat the word of God and become full of the Word, we are to speak the word to others and when we do this it brings life!

I pray that this message blesses you and you will share it with someone else!

Be blessed!
